Helena MT. Ma uses the label 'urothelium' exclusively. Transitional cell carcinoma (tcc), also called urothelial cell carcinoma (ucc), is the most common primary malignancy of the urinary tract and may be found along its entire length, from the renal pelvis.
This is the layer of cells that lines the inside of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra.
The urothelium lines the upper portion of the genitourinary tract, i.e. Each calyx is lined by transitional epithelium, or urothelium. Transitional epithelium is a stratified tissue made of multiple cell layers, where the cells constituting examples of transitional epithelium. The transitional epithelium that lines most structures of the urinary tract —called also uroepithelium.
